Tariq: how did you get started in modeling? Maya: After I was invited to go to hot import nights in
Washington, DC
 Tariq: how long ago was that? Maya: Last June (2005) Tariq: how has the industry treated you so far? Maya: So far it has been fun and great. I've met some awesome
people. I really didn't know what to expect. Tariq: What type of reaction do you get when you go out? Maya: (Laughs) I don't go out too much. And I am very low key.
I'm so new to modeling that I don't think people recognize me and don't walk
around throwing names. Plus I live in the Washington, DC area where the import
scene is not as big as in the West Coast. Tariq: Do men take notice when you're around? You know approach with
the corny lines and all that. Maya: Oh gosh, yes. I actually am very shy and try to avoid
those situations. I don't like to make anyone feel stupid or get rejected.
Tariq: What's the dumbest thing somebody has said to you? I know you
got something!
 Maya: You must be HOT! cuz your body's smokin'! Maya: (Laughs!!!!) I couldn't contain myself then...and now
that I remember that. Tariq: (Laughs).That is pretty stupid! Tariq: Have you been disrespected by men a lot? Maya: I don't know about a lot but I've had my share Tariq: Okay enough about the losers with weak game let's talk about
photo shoots Maya: Okay but I've only been on a few compared to many of the
import models. I'm sorry if i'm not a more exciting interviewee Tariq: Nonsense! Your fine don't say that girl Maya: Okay… I'm nervous. Tariq: Put it like this me and you are just having a conversation.
You can ask me questions too. You're not on the stand in court and I'm not a
lawyer. (Laughs) Maya: Okay good what kind of underwear are you wearing? If any?
Tariq: (Laughs) Boxers. Does a shoot make you nervous too? Maya: Very much so, well actually it depends. For the first 15
min it does and then I shake it off.
 Tariq: What do you think about when you pose for the camera? Maya: Is my gut sticking out? (Laughs) Tariq: What do you feel is your sexiest feature? Maya: My eyes and my smile. Tariq: So your smile will make me give you my wallet? Maya: My smile and my betty boop eyes... Tariq: Really? What type of things have you gotten for free because
of the way you look? Maya: (Laughs) honestly nothing I am very independent and I
don't have that kind of personality. It's funny you asked that because I've
asked my friend Yoli how she does it? She said that I need to not be so
reserved to begin with. Tariq: Independence is a good thing….Do you speak any other
languages? Maya: pig latin! Just joking! I took filipino and spanish at
UCLA. I really liked learning Filipino because the classes involved history and
class trips to downtown L.A. and going to Filipino cultural shows. I also
enjoyed watching movies. I just really enjoyed the class as a whole Tariq: did you pass it? Maya: A+ Tariq: just checking Maya: okay...an A Maya: They don't give out A+ at UCLA
 Tariq: You serious? Maya: They give out + and - but A is the highest. So u can get
B+ or A- but not a+ …Do you speak any languages? Tariq: Nope just english and a couple spanish words a little french
too I guess Maya: let me guess bad words? If that counts I know Italian,
even sign language in Italian Tariq: No (laughs) no bad words Tariq: are you still @ UCLA? Maya: No I'm out in Maryland now. Tariq: graduated? Maya: Yes Tariq: What did u take? Maya: Linguistics and Spanish, the nerdy model (laughs) Tariq: The bookworm! Tariq: are you in a relationship Maya? Maya: Yes Tariq: If you wanted to do something nice for your man what would
you do?
 Maya: Detail his car. Tariq: Damn! lucky bastard! Maya: Well you asked if I WANTED to do something nice....It's
yet to be done. (laughs) Tariq: oohh! Still a lucky bastard though Tariq: What's your favorite body part on a man? Maya: is this PG? (Laughs) Tariq: It's the Maya Simone reality show Maya: Oh damn! I like the whole package, not really a parts
kind of girl Tariq: Real smooth answer Maya: You like it? I thought it would be a good answer.
(Laughs) I surprise myself sometimes Tariq: What are the worst assumptions people make about models?
Maya: That we're stupid, vain, attention whores. So what if 2
out 3 are true! (Laughs) only kidding! Tariq: (laughs) funny girl! Tariq: What category of photos do you do?
 Maya: Well since I'm new I really don't want to get stuck in a
category. Since we're in the now I can say I've done glamour, nude, and surf
photos. I would like to do lifestyle, editorial, commercial, and even try other
styles. I don't want to limit myself I really want to do some
snowboarding/skating stuff. Tariq: So you're open pretty much to anything tasteful? Maya: Yeah Maya: Hey since your Canadian do spell favorite…
favourite? Yes a random question! Tariq: Yeah that is the RIGHT way to spell that word. Maya: Why is that the RIGHT way to spell that word? Tariq: because I'm Canadian (laughs) Maya: (Laughs) Tariq: Have you ever been to Canada? Maya: When I was about 5 or maybe 6 not sure but it was a long
time ago. My family went to Toronto and Montreal. I remember being scared of
getting on the Amtrak train because the gap between the platform and the train
was HUGE!I thought I would fall in! Tariq: you did a good interview Maya Maya: Really?! I suck at interviews but you're funny so it was
fun. I wish my job interviews were all like this! Tariq: (Laughs)
