Monthly Special February 2007; Interview photographer Hal Yarbrough

Hal Yarbrough Hal's profile

  • Rowald: Are your photos more your taste or demand from others?
  • Hal: My photos are directly related to marketing my products for Dare2wear Swimwear. However, I do take photos that will help the Models look sexy, yet classy. I do like helping people..particularly the Models.
  • Rowald: What type of photos are your preference?
  • Hal: I try to take photos that will show that the Model is having fun at the shoot - and they do. It's not always about business - It's about having fun and accomplishing the goals of the business all at the same time.
  • Rowald: Do you develop scenery ideas with the models or more yourself?
  • Hal: Actually, I shoot 99.9 % on location. Each location provides different "looks" so I can show the diversity of where we work with Models.
  • Rowald: Do you try to create, display or express something special with your photos?
  • Hal: Not really. I have been critisized for only taking "standard catalog images" which is true - but I need that in order to show what we sell at Dare2wear Swimwear. However, one of my "goals" is to break away from the standard images and get into doing shots that are sexier as that is what everyone likes...Me Too !!
  • Rowald: Would you like to do other types?
  • Hal: Yep. Definately. I have always wanted to shoot glamour but have never had the chance. Too busy trying to do things for the business. I need to expand my horizons and shoot images that will blow everyone away !!! In time, I hope that will happen...
  • Rowald: Are you a tech freak or an artist?
  • Hal: A little of each. I like being technical so the images will come out great (and printable) but also try to take images that show the sexier side of a Model look. I pride myself in being able to get the "curves" out of each Model which leads to sexier shots...but nothing inapproriate...
  • Rowald: Do you use a lot of equipment or try to stay light-weight?
  • Hal: Good question - Since I shoot most all images "on location", I usually only use a light panel or two to achieve the results I need.
  • Rowald: Do you do analog photography still?
  • Hal: No I don't...
  • Rowald: What are your hobbies?
  • Hal: Photographer...Photography...Photography...
  • Rowald: What are your plans or visions for your future?
  • Hal: I intend to bring back EGO Swimwear (My "other" Company and become successful in the swimwear industry. Along with that I plan on helping as many people as I can. It's not just being successful with the business, but it's all about helping others to achieve their dreams...After all, I have dreams as well, and one of them it to help as many Models as I can...
  • Rowald: How do you get along with models?
  • Hal: Now that's a loaded question...I can say I get along great with everyone, but that's MY opinion...Check around the internet and ask about me and you will see what Models say...
  • Rowald: I think you traveled a lot. Where did you go to?
  • Hal: Florida quite a bit, Cancun (many times) Mexico, Jamaica and all over the USA...I also travel to Canada to shoot with SELECT Models for Dare2wear....
  • Rowald: Do you do female models only or people in common and what about other types?
  • Hal: Currently, Only Female Models...
  • Rowald: How does one make such good photos? Can you give some tips to the readers?
  • Hal: I must confess... I do try hard to make everyone happy with their images...some are better than others..but some are spectacular !! The KEY is to have fun during the shoot...be yourself and pose with sexiness and style...
  • Rowald: People envy you doing these shootings with models. What do you say to this?
  • Hal: Yes, it's fun, but also a lot of work. Hold a 7 pound camera in your hands for 12 hours a day after shooting with 20 models and tell me your not tired... I really do like meeting and working with new and professional Models, but there is a time to shoot and a time to put the camera down to relax and have fun too...
  • Rowald: What you think about photos taken by others?
  • Hal: It depends on the photographer and what he/she is trying to accomplish. There are times when I look at other photographs work and can't believe how awsome their images are..and other times I see image and want to send them some advice to help them...but...It is not my right to say how other photographers shoot...it is what THEY see in their heart and want to portray in the images they create...
  • Rowald: What is your best photo?
  • Hal: Hmmm..Best photo...wow, now that's a difficult question !!! Let's say the photo I am MOST Proud of is of Teresa Brown..My very FIRST Centerfold for Dare2wear Swimwear. I never thought I would ever aspire to be good enough to shoot the Centerfold for Playboy, so I created my own company and now publisher my own Centerfold...If you can't join-em'''Beat em''''Do your OWN !!
  • Rowald: How do you create a good atmosphere for shootings?
  • Hal: I let the surroundings do that for me since I shoot the majority of images on location...
  • Rowald: Do you have ethnic preferences?
  • Hal: No not at all. I love working with EVERYONE !!!
  • Rowald: When meeting a girl, where do you look first at?
  • Hal: Her figure first, then her smile and personality. If she isn't right for the company, I will know immediately..If she is..don't be surprised if I BEG her to Model...
  • Rowald: What attracts or inspires you?
  • Hal: Attracts: Gorgeous Women with a beautiful face, smile and curvy figure. Inspiration: My DREAMS... I will NOT Fail !!!!
  • Rowald: Do you let them pose or do you direct more?
  • Hal: Usually I do both. It all depends on the model. If she is doing well on her own, I don't need to direct her, but if she needs "help", I will VERBALLY tell her what she can do to improve her pose...
  • Rowald: Any special preferences in scenery or outfit?
  • Hal: Yes, only Dare2wear...I won't shoot for someone else or another company...I don't and WON'T make time...
  • Rowald: Are there models you don't like to work with?
  • Hal: Belive it or not, I have never run into a situation where I was totally uncomfortable with working with a model. There were "momments" that I was uncomfortable, but I tend to work out the kinks so the model and I will click to get the desired results...
  • Rowald: Happiest Accomplishment?

  • Personal

  • Hal: No. I am VERY Happily Married to my Life Partner - Joy. God - I love this Women !!!!!!!!!
